Progress display configurations
Progress displays are a way to visualize the progress of a business process that spans multiple clicks or even multiple users. A lot of records require actions before the data of its record can be perceived as “final”. For instance, when selling or purchasing something, it might be required to make phone calls to discuss pricing, to gain approval of certain coworkers, or in whichever way your organization functions.

Manual vs. Workflow
Progress displays have two types: Manual and Workflow.
Manual progress displays have a very specific, uncommon use, as there is no automation in the progress; every step has to be entered manually by a user, so the shown progress is disconnected from your data and totally dependent on whether the user has clicked through the progress bar appropriately.
Workflow progress displays are by far the most common. They require a workflow to be running, and display the current step/progress of the workflow. This is useful for pages that require multiple actions to be performed, as a workflow can track the data of a page and thus the progress display can display the correct status based on your data.
