Mutation Process
Once an insurance policy has been finalized, you can no longer make changes to the original data. If something still needs to be adjusted, you must perform a mutation on the policy.
A mutation means making a change to an existing policy, such as:
- Updating customer details (e.g., address or contact information)
- Changing the coverage
- Adding or removing additional coverages
- Updating properties and / or object details (e.g., motor vehicle or building)
Important considerations:
- Every mutation is recorded in the policy history, including the date, time, and the user who made the change.
- Depending on the type of change, the mutation may need to go through the acceptance process again.
- In some cases, customer consent or renewed acceptance is required, for example when increasing the risk.
Performing a Mutation
You perform a mutation by clicking the Mutate button. If it is not pinned, you can find it under the “More” tab in the top-right corner of the screen.
After you open it a new screen opens where you can fill in the following fields:
-
Reason: For a mutation, the reason must be set to “Mutate”.
-
Explanation: Choose the reason for the mutation, such as “Add Clause” or “Add coverage”.
-
Date: Enter the date and time of the mutation.
You will then be taken directly into the new version of the policy. This version will have draft status, allowing you to update the details.
In the Version Control panel, you will see that:
- The reason is set to Mutation.
- The sequence number is now 2.
- A direct link to the previous version of the policy is available.
Editing the Draft Policy
While the policy is in draft status, you can update all relevant details:
- Customer information
- Object information
- Policy properties
- Coverage properties
Changing the mutation reason:
You can change the mutation reason in the Version Control panel by selecting a different reason from the dropdown menu.
Finalizing or Canceling the Mutation
-
Finalize the mutation:
Click “Finalize version” in the toolbar.
This confirms the changes and converts the draft version into a definitive policy. -
Cancel the mutation:
Click “Cancel mutation”.
This deletes the draft version and keeps the original (previous) version of the policy active without changes.
